Wall Framing Calculator

Frame a wall without guessing. Enter the wall length, height, and stud spacing and this calculator returns the stud count, framing nails, and — if you want them — sheathing and drywall sheet counts with screws. Add a waste factor for cuts and culls.

Most pros add 10% for cuts, breakage, and overage.

Estimate

No drip sequence. The estimate lands in your inbox and in VertaFlow so I can turn it into a real quote if you want one.

How to use the wall framing calculator

  1. Enter the wall length and height in feet.
  2. Choose your stud spacing — 12", 16", or 24" on center.
  3. Toggle sheathing and drywall on if you want those counts too.
  4. Read the stud, nail, sheet, and screw counts. Add waste for cuts.

Questions

How do I calculate the number of studs in a wall?

Divide the wall length in inches by your on-center spacing, then add one for the end stud. For example, a 20 ft wall at 16" OC needs about 16 studs before corners, openings, and waste.

Does this include corner and opening studs?

It gives the base field-stud count plus a waste allowance. Add extra studs for corners, T-intersections, and the king/jack studs around door and window openings.
