Drywall Calculator

Hanging drywall? Enter the wall length and height and this calculator returns the number of 4×8 sheets and the screws to fasten them, with an optional waste factor for cuts and damaged sheets. It uses the same field math as the framing calculator with drywall enabled.

Most pros add 10% for cuts, breakage, and overage.

Estimate

No drip sequence. The estimate lands in your inbox and in VertaFlow so I can turn it into a real quote if you want one.

How to use the drywall calculator

  1. Enter the total length of wall (and ceiling, if any) you are covering.
  2. Enter the wall height in feet.
  3. Read the 4×8 sheet count and screw count. Add waste for cuts and culls.

Questions

How many 4×8 drywall sheets do I need?

Each 4×8 sheet covers 32 square feet. Divide your total wall area by 32 and round up. A 20 ft × 8 ft wall (160 sq ft) needs five sheets before waste.

How many screws per drywall sheet?

Roughly 32 screws per 4×8 sheet at 12-inch spacing on studs 16" on center. Ceilings and 24" OC framing change the count.
